  4. Introduction:

  6. Tspool is a print spooler designed for programs such as PageStream.  Tspool
  7. creates  a  new  device named 'tpar:' which acts as if it is 'par:' but the
  8. data is spooled into files on the hard disk.  This means that programs such
  9. as  PageStream which use the parallel port directly can run through a print
  10. spooler without having to use the Workbench printer drivers (Which are very
  11. slow).

  13. TSpool saves to 2 log files t:tspool.loga and t:tspool.logb, it cycles
  14. between them so your memory does not all vanish:-) If you have any problems
  15. with tspool then email me the log files.

  17. I suggest you install the fastpar software as the Amigas printer handler
  18. is very heavy on processor usage. If you do install it then follow the
  19. fastpar.readme file instead of the instructions with the fastpar package.

  21. When I get time I'll add a C= installer script to tspool and fastpar but
  22. for now you will have to do manually.

  26. You will need an Amiga with a hard drive and at least OS V36 (WB2.0).
  27. You will also need at least 100K of memory free while printing, if you
  28. are short of memory then the files will not be printed until there is enough
  29. memory available.

  31. Installation:

  33. 1. Copy Tspool-handler into your L: directory.
  34. 2. Copy spoolit into your c: directory.
  35. 3. Copy TPAR into your devs:dosdrivers directory.
  36. 4. Add 'assign spool: myharddrive:spool' to your user-startup.
  37. 5. Make a spool directory on myharddrive:
  38. 6. Install fastpar, see the fastpar.readme file.
  39. 7. Reboot.

  41. Pagestream Setup:

  43. 1. Load Pagestream.
  44. 2. Select 'Configure Printer'
  45. 3. Click on the 'Device:' button.
  46. 4. Type in tpar: into the device text box.
  47. 5. Save the printer settings.

  49. Print as normal, you will notice the hard drive activity if the spooler is 
  50. working.

  55. 1994.   You  may freely distribute these programs and documentation as long
  56. as you do not make a charge of any more than a reasonable copying fee. If 
  57. you wish to revise or update the software then please do but you must then
  58. send a copy of the new version and source code to Fourth Level Developments.

  60. in other programmes but you must first put your suggestions to us and obtain
